Cruise ships do a wonderful job of accommodating any type of special needs you may have.  They do everything they can so that a cruise vacation is accessible to everyone.

Each cruise line and ship may vary, but here are some of the examples of how cruise lines accommodate individuals with special needs.

  • Mobility Issues - Many ships offer early boarding, transfers utilizing wheelchair accessible vehicles, scooter access, hydraulic lifts for pools and whirlpools, accessible gaming tables at the casino and easy accessibility to the Guest Relations desks.  Extra staff assistance is also available for embarkation and debarkation.
  • Visual Impairments - Service animals are allowed onboard, use of Braille on signage and elevators and early boarding for orientation tours.
  • Hearing Impairments - Portable alert systems often available, TTY/TDD and/or amplified phones, Sign Language interpreters, closed-caption televisions and infrared systems.
  • Medical Needs - All ships have medical staff onboard. Many ships will allow you to ship dialysis supplies and equipment prior to boarding.  Oxygen tanks are also allowed.
  • Dietary Concerns - Dining rooms, upon special request, can tailor meals for those individuals with dietary restrictions.  If you have any special needs or concerns about accessibility, consult Cruise Holidays for details.
