Azamara's Deluxe Cruise Experience

Everyone knows that good things come in small packages, even when the package is a cruise ship. The ships of the Azamara Cruises line are considered to be "smaller," with a maximum passenger list of 694. However, Azamara uses the smaller size of its ships to deliver a more personalized, pampering cruise experience. Azamara was created in 2007.

Azamara Cruises was created to target an area of the market that was previously underserved. It falls into the deluxe category: a category between premium and luxury.

This special cruise line’s unique name is rooted in Romance language references to blue (aza) and the sea (mar), as well as a lesser-known word (Acamar). Long ago, Acamar was the name of the southernmost bright star visible from the latitude of Greece. So, the name Azamara reflects this cruise line’s view of its service and style as "a bright star on the deep blue sea."

On Azamara’s ships, "deluxe" means butler service for all staterooms, which are furnished with quality European bedding and soft goods. There are flat-screen televisions, too, and wireless Internet access. You’ll enjoy a daily fruit basket and freshly cut flowers, plus a sweet treat left on your pillow each evening.

Deluxe cruising with Azamara also means a "resort casual" dress code, which adds to the atmosphere of relaxed elegance. While there are no scheduled formal nights, many guests choose to wear formal evening attire in the dining room and specialty restaurants. After dinner, you can gather around the piano in a cozy piano bar, dance to a live band or take in a show.

During the daylight hours, many guests enjoy shore excursions – Azamara calls them "shore immersions" – designed to involve them in the life and culture of the places visited. If you would rather stay on board, you can relax with an aroma stone treatment or a resurfacing facial in the ship’s spa and wellness center.

Azamara’s two ships, the Quest and the Journey, sail a variety of itineraries in Asia, the Caribbean, Europe, South America, Antarctica and the Panama Canal. The sleek design of Azamara’s ships means they can visit many ports that are not accessible to larger ships.
