Shore Excursions for Photographers

A cruise is a terrific vacation choice for anyone who loves photography. The scenery changes with each new port of call, and there are lots of opportunities to capture candid shots of your friends and family on board. Shore excursions also provide unique photo opportunities – in fact, some excursions are designed with photography buffs in mind.

When calling on Juneau as part of an Alaskan cruise, you can take a photo safari with a guide who will share outdoor photography tips and techniques along the way. At Mendenhall Glacier, you can capture photos of the glacial landscape and the wildlife that calls it home. Then, a pontoon boat ride among the Channel Islands will take you close to Alaska’s marine life and landscapes. Large windows provide unrestricted views, and the boat’s pontoons provide a steady ride perfect for photography.

Some fall foliage cruises of New England and Canada that call on Halifax, Nova Scotia, feature an opportunity to take a photography tour with a professional nature photographer as a guide. You might capture scenes of life in a traditional fishing village; the foliage and wildflowers of an inland forest; the parks and gardens of Halifax; or the rugged Atlantic coastline.

There are plenty of opportunities to use your photography skills on cruises to warmer climates, too. Cruise ship passengers who visit Roatàn, an island off the coast of Honduras, can take a tour with an experienced local photographer. The island’s rainforests, beaches and wildlife are all terrific photo subjects. You could also take an excursion that combines a photography tour on land with a scuba dive, where you can take underwater photos of colorful fish and coral.

Keep in mind that by working with a travel agent or cruise consultant, they may have knowledge of shore excursions well beyond what the cruise line itself offers. It’s just one of the many additional advantages of working with a travel agent.
